Just before you succeed to conceive your baby

First of all, there has to be a time limit set after which we can say that a couple has been having problems conceiving a child. That time limit depends on your age. If a woman is younger than 35 than you should get pregnant within 12 months of contraceptive-free regular intercourse, while women older than 35 should take a step further after 6 months of infertility under same circumstances.

Regular intercourse should be practiced during the period of estrus or ovulation, around 14th day of every menstrual cycle.

There are couples who never managed to get pregnant and that is called primary infertility, compared to those who managed to conceive sometime in their life, no matter what happened with that pregnancy(-cies), which is named secondary infertility.

If you have figured out that you have a problem, you should try to solve it, even if are scared of and anxious about diagnostic procedures and possible treatments. Trying is the only way to conceive!

You should choose a gynecologist who will give you some basic tests, check hormone levels in your blood, do a smear check-up, Pap smear, manual examination and ultrasound of your inner reproductive apparatus. Also, your partner's semen should be checked, because it can shorten the period of diagnosis by lot. In 10% of all the couples who are having troubles getting pregnant, both partners have problems and medical issues that prevent them from having a baby. Usually, in one third of cases medical causes are found in women, and in two thirds of men, that's why it's important to get checked and not be like the rest of the couples who end up with diagnosis of 'unexplained infertility' instead of getting a clearer explanation.

After these basic tests your doctor will order some others, if needed, in order to find out specific reasons for any infertility problem and then treat it specifically.

Trouble getting pregnant is a common problem, but the experience of people who had successfully treated is truly encouraging.

There are many things that you can do on your own, like preparing your body and your relationship for the baby. You should do that by stopping taking alcohol and drugs, make reduction in caffeine intake, and also stop taking some medications that are known to interfere with fertility or can damage the fetus. It is also very important to regulate your body weight as much as you can by having a proper diet. Reduction of only 5% of your body mass if you are overweight will bring many benefits, and one of them is a greater chance to get and stay pregnant. Sleep, hygiene, improving living conditions, avoiding stress and/ or using stress management techniques also can be of tremendous help. Some people have very good experiences with yoga and acupuncture. Taking synthetic folate is also highly recommendable on regular basis, usually taken four months prior to conception and during pregnancy in a dosage of 400 micrograms daily. Some herbs have been shown to have exquisite effects on fertility and are real fertility boosters, such as Peruvian Maca. The point is to try, and if you try, you shall succeed.
